CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO
Join the conversation about how independents are disrupting the status quo and connect with federal community independent Dr Monique Ryan MP in a Q&A discussion facilitated by our co-founder Thomas Emerson on the ANU campus at 6pm on Thursday 27 June.
Dr Ryan wrested Melbourne's Kooyong away from the Liberal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg as part of a wave of community independents crashing onto the scene in 2022. She will share her experience of deciding to run, being elected and operating as a 'Teal' independent in our Federal Parliament.
Come along and quiz Dr Ryan on her work, why she left her first career as a neurologist caring for sick children to move into politics and her community-first approach to representing her constituents. You'll also learn about her recent successful campaign to make HECS repayments fairer, which saw almost 300,000 people across the country sign a petition calling for change.
A LOCAL CANDIDATE SEEKING ENDORSEMENT
Before the 6pm event with Dr Ryan, Leanne Foresti will make her case for endorsement as an Independents for Canberra candidate running for the electorate of Ginninderra in the ACT Election this October. Please join us at 5.30pm to hear from Leanne and ask about her motives, her background in the construction industry and what she would do differently as an MLA.
Stay around after the event wraps up at 7.30pm to chat with the team at Independents for Canberra about how you can get involved in the independent movement.
Please be sure to RSVP.
