It’s been an exceptionally busy couple of weeks! 

You may have seen that our newly-minted candidates, supported by some incredible volunteers, have done a terrific job swinging into action holding community stalls at shopping centres and beginning door-knocking efforts. We’re off to a positive start with loads of great interactions on the street with people who want change.

We’ve also been talking to a wide range of policy experts, NGOs, businesses and community groups about areas for improvement. We will shortly prepare an in-principle set of policy commitments to bring to the community for further feedback – stay tuned for more information on this soon!

We have a couple of exciting upcoming events and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible.

27 June - Independent Politics in the Pub at ANU with Dr Monique Ryan MP

At 6pm on Thursday 27 June, we are hosting a special politics in the pub event featuring the amazing Federal Member for Kooyong, Dr Monique Ryan MP, who will speak on how the independent movement is challenging the status quo. The majority of the event will be a direct Q&A with Dr Ryan, making this a great opportunity to interact with her in an informal setting and get a unique understanding of her experience as one of the trailblazing 'Teals'. 27 June - Supplementary Ginninderra Candidate Endorsement Town Hall

Immediately prior to the event with Monique Ryan, at 5.30pm next Thursday at the same venue, we’ll be holding a special Candidate Endorsement Town Hall, where we will hear from Leanne Foresti, prospective candidate for the seat of Ginninderra, about why she is ready to step up and represent her community. We’d love to have you there to ask Leanne about her motives and objectives!

July 4 - Trivia Fundraising Night at OCI

One week later, on Thursday 4 July, we’re putting on a special Independents Day Trivia Fundraiser Night at the Old Canberra Inn. Tickets are $25pp (+ processing fee) and all money raised will go to essential campaign supplies including printed flyers and Independents for Canberra merchandise. We’ll also have a door raffle and some excellent prizes for you to win.

This is a great opportunity to get together with candidates and the growing campaign team, acknowledge the collective efforts to date, touch base about how people can get more involved, test your knowledge and have loads of fun!

It’s hard to believe we’re only a little over 100 days away from the opening of pre-polls. It’s going to take an enormous, collective effort to bring about the change we’re all hoping to see. If you have any spare time to get more involved with the campaign, we’d love to hear from you.
