Independents for Canberra, a voice for change, will host a town hall meeting this Sunday 11 February at The RUC Turner Bowls Club from 10am to 11.30am.
Town hall meetings allow voters’ voices to be heard, promote open debate, and help to develop policies that reflect the true interests and priorities within our community.
The meeting, chaired by Independents for Canberra co-founders Clare Carnell and Thomas Emerson, will build on the grassroots community support in the ACT for independent candidates shown in the last Federal election. That same community desire for true independents can now aim for elected voices at this year’s Territory election.
Also speaking at the event will be prominent independent figures Kate Chaney MP, the first federally elected female independent member for Western Australia; Senator David Pocock, the ACT’s first independent member of federal parliament; and Michael Moore AM, who served four terms as an independent member of the ACT Legislative Assembly.
Quotes attributable to Thomas Emerson, Co-Founder & Candidate:
“This movement isn’t just for people who are already politically engaged. It’s for anyone who wants something better for the ACT.
“Canberra is our nation’s capital – we should be leading the country in the provision of essentials like high-quality healthcare and affordable housing, rather than trailing other jurisdictions.
“It’s time to join the movement, have your voice heard and be part of creating Canberra’s future.”
Quotes attributable to Clare Carnell, Co-Founder & Party Director:
“Amazing things happen when pieces come together: a great goal, the right time and the right people.
“As Director for Independents for Canberra, I’ll be finding and coordinating dynamic candidates and campaigns – helping Territorians get the better outcomes we deserve.
“Now is the time to get involved. Canberrans, your city needs you!”
Quote attributable to Michael Moore, former independent MLA & ACT health minister:
“This town hall event marks a starter's whistle for independent candidates to achieve real success in the October election.”
Michael Moore, Clare Carnell and Thomas Emerson will also be available to interview following the event, at 11.45am outside the venue.
